William R. "Bill" Hammock, who resided in Van Buren, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born October 15, 1930, in Winslow, Arkansas to the late Robert William Hammock and Virginia (May) Hammock. He was 86 years old. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Jo Bell, Viola Davidson and Callie Poole.
Bill was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment operator in Alaska. Upon his return home, he was owner and operator of Hammock Construction. Bill was a Mason, and he was a member of Kibler Baptist Church. He was a husband, father, brother, pawpa, and a child of God.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 15th, at Kibler Baptist Church in Kibler. Interment, with military honors, will be at 12:00 P.M. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earlene Hammock; his children, Terrie Mackle and husband Gene and Ginger Bowen and husband Gary, all of Van Buren; one sister, Ann Lindsey of Van Buren; two brothers, Clyde Hammock and wife Patty of Fort Smith and Jackie Hammock and wife Frankie of Russellville; (7) grandchildren and (17) great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Bowen, Scott Gilreath, Brian Gilreath, David Bowen, Joe Brown and Dylan Snow.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Yates, C.J. Doengi, Ed Delafuente and Charlie Anderson.
Family will visit with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday night at Kibler Baptist Church in Kibler.
