Obituary

Wanda Lucille "Granny" Martin, who resided in Central City, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Valley Springs Rehabilitation and Health Center in Van Buren. She entered this world May 19, 1930, in Fort Smith, to the late Elza Lynn, Sr. and Bernice Weiburg Lynn. She was almost 89 years old.  She was the oldest of what would be five siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Shirley Leroy Martin; her daughter, Donna Rogers; her sister, Belva Roam; and a brother, Elza Lynn, Jr.

Granny Wanda lived a full and impactful 88 years. She traveled the U.S. bowling. She had several 300 point games to her records. She retired after 42 years at James River Dixie Cup, only to work another 17 years as the beloved hostess and "queen of to-go's" at Calico County. This is where, not only her family who already knew how great she was, but the public would learn about her wit, care, and smarts. She had spent the last two years of her life in a long term care facility with "her precious" Tina. She was loved by the other residents and staff alike. She still enjoyed The Price Is Right, The Young and The Restless, strawberry ice cream, french fries with ranch, and of course, smoke breaks . She refused to play bingo because "That was for old people." Granny had so much she taught the generations that she raised. The most important things were work hard to get anything, love with everything you have, and be honest.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30th, at First Southern Baptist Church in Central City, with the Rev. Russ Tyler officiating. Burial will be at Mayberry Cemetery in Central City, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by two granddaughters, "Her Precious", Tina Douglas and husband, "Mr. Perfect" Marty of Lavaca and Tammy Hogan of Poteau; three great-grandchildren, "Mr. Handsome" Austin Douglas, "Little Big Man" Elijah Douglas, and Kylie Paige Hogan; one sister, Patsy Richie of Muldrow and a brother, Carroll Lynn of Spring, Texas; and a new great-great-granddaughter, Ellie Camellia Douglas.

Pallbearers are Elijah Douglas, Austin Douglas, Rodney Hogan, Chuck Bentley, Lance LaRoche, and Scott Blair.

The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at First Southern Baptist Church in Central City.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone at Valley Springs Rehab and Health Center for loving her like she was their own granny. To Dr. Niba and Priscilla Johnston for the amazing care they provided her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Granny Wanda's name to Valley Springs Rehab and Health Center in Van Buren.
