Wanda Louise Bates, who resided in Charleston, died Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. She was born January 19, 1941, in Fort Smith, to the late Edward Alvin Rowe and Pauline Louise (Willis) Rowe. She was 78 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Bates; a son, Ricky Bates; and two brothers, Joe Rowe and Allen Rowe.
Wanda was a homemaker and member of Lavaca First Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 23rd, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Bobby Whittaker officiating. Burial will be at Parks Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Chandler and husband Allen of Van Buren, Rhonda Martin and husband Jimmy Don of Charleston, and Kim Kincy and husband Danny of Lavaca; two sons, Ronald Bates of Charleston and Danny Bates of Russellville; a daughter-in-law, Roxanne Bates of Charleston; six sisters, Elizabeth Opitz of Van Buren, Laverne Riggs of Fort Smith, Dorothy Ritchie of Bonanza, Delores Clark of Fort Smith, Linda Whittaker of Bonanza, and Betty Yarberro of Bonanza; two brothers, Leo Rowe and Billy Rowe, Sr., both of Bonanza; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Wes Powell, Jacob Bates, Blake Bates, Justin Bates, Daniel Bates, Rustin Bates, Jesse Martin, and Chase Martin.
The family will visit with friends an hour prior to the service on Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home in Charleston.
