Vernon Mitchell Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born on May 18, 1954, in Coleman, Texas, to the late Albert Thomas Smith and Henrietta (Jackson) Smith. He was 70 years old.

Vernon retired from a gas company.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy (Watkins) Smith; a daughter, Lisa Lopez of Spokane, Washington; a son, Brian Smith of Fort Smith; a sister, Marjorie Atkinson and husband Mitchell of Garland, Texas; four brothers, John Smith and wife Angela and Clifton Smith and wife Carol, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Rodger Smith and wife Anne of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Thomas Smith and wife Kathy of Millsap, Texas; and two grandchildren, Merissa Gray and Isaiah Gray, both of Spokane, Washington.
