Thomas Dean Byrd of Charleston, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on April 17, 1959, in Ozark, Arkansas, to the late Glenn Truman Byrd and Edna Viola (Patterson) Byrd. He was 67 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Brent Rofkahr, and stepfather, Harley Gossage.

Tommy was a 1977 graduate of Ozark High School. For several years, Tommy worked for International Paper Company in Fort Smith. He enjoyed metal detecting, hunting and fishing, and was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church. He was an avid Charleston Tigers sports fan, and loved working the cross-walk at Charleston Public Schools directing traffic for the kids to come and go across Highway 22. Tommy was a family man and his family always came first. He was loved by many people and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wilma (Knotts) Byrd; eight daughters, Erica Price and Lark of Ozark, Megan Byrd of DeWitt, Arkansas, Shaneika Bottoms and Taylor of Charleston, Justice Byrd and Taj of Fort Smith, Kimberly Byrd and John of Charleston, Krystal Byrd of Charleston, Lucy Byrd of Charleston, and Akyria Byrd of Charleston; three sons, Jose Byrd of Charleston, Danny Byrd and Raven of Fort Smith, and Levi Hess of Fort Smith; three sisters, Candace Cottrell and Royce of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Roni Elliott and Stephen of Paris, and Leslie Battles of Ozark; a brother, Leonard Rofkahr and Matildia of Paris; and two grandchildren, Zeke and Amirah Bottoms.

Public viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23rd, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23rd, at the funeral home. The body will be cremated following the visitation.

Cremation arrangements and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
