Obituary

Theron B. "Doc" McElroy, who resided near Etna, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. He was the youngest of seven children and was born on January 16, 1921, in the Sub Rosa Community in Franklin County, Arkansas, to the late W. Scott McElroy and Isabelle J. (Hughes) McElroy. He was 100 years old. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Etna and was very regular in attendance until his health prevented him from going. He loved to fish and hunt in his younger years and was very successful in both. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army World War II veteran with a long list of medals. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral service will be he held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial with "Military Honors" will be at Lowes Creek Cemetery, located north of Branch near Peter Pender, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Mr. Tommy Thornhill.

He is survived by three nephews, Robert DeWitt, Bill Mantooth, and Joe McElroy; four nieces, Barbara Haynes, Nina Bowman, Mabel Brownfield, and Peggy Morgan; and his best friend, Stan Rash.

Pallbearers will be family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Etna Church of Christ, 8026 S. Hwy. 23, Ozark, AR  72930 or to Lowes Creek Cemetery Fund, 8441 Hwy. 41, Charleston, AR  72933.

The Doc McElroy family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Greenhurst Nursing Center staff for the love and care given to Doc the last months of his life. You will always be remembered.

Public viewing will begin Thursday, January 28th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until funeral hour.
