Obituary

Rhonda Sue Schluterman, who resided near Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at her home. She was born on July 27, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Charles Fred Wurst and Charlyne (Myers) Wurst. She was 68 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Charlyne Wurst; a daughter, Brandi (Schluterman) Greer; and a son, Chase Schluterman.

Rhonda's family moved to Paris, Arkansas when it was time for her brother Ronnie and her to start school. This led to the Wurst family running the local Western Auto Store. Rhonda's dad was more inclined to call her by her second name or Susie Q, and later in school, her close friend was also Rhonda. This was confusing to the teachers, so to help the situation, Rhonda Wurst had everyone call her Susie.

Susie excelled in many activities and functions during her school years and graduated in 1974 along with Louis. Besides school work, Susie always had to help with the family business at Western Auto like she had done since she was very young and continued until the late 80's.

On November 29, 1975 Susie married her high school sweetheart, Louis Schluterman and together they started a new family which grew to five children:  Joshua, Heath, Brandi, Chase and Rachel. Susie volunteered to help or lead any event, activity, or group that their children were involved in at school. She served on the PTA and became the Cubmaster of the local Cub Scouts in Barling, AR where the family lived from 1976 - 2002. Susie taught many young men how to be responsible, live a clean life and enjoy the outdoors. She even put up with camping when it was below freezing. When the children were older, Susie took a part-time job at Sears and then moved on to the grocery business where Louis worked. She helped in the floral department and eventually went on to run Flower Shops and General Merchandise departments with Safeway, Harvest Foods and Harps Food Stores.

In 2002, Susie and Louis built a new home on farm land they owned near Lavaca/Charleston. On August 10, 2010 all of this lifestyle changed when Susie was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer with a 20% chance to live 5 more years. How was this possible! She was determined not to give up because she had grandkids to hug, America to visit, and Razorback events to attend. To accomplish this, Susie endured chemo treatments every three weeks for fourteen years, but she always said that her grandkids' hugs were stronger than any medicine. Susie used her life experiences to help many other people and friends who thought they could not endure their own situations.
