IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sue Ann
Frizzell
November 18, 1947 – August 14, 2024
Sue Ann Hamiter Frizzell was born on November 18, 1947, in Watseka, Illinois, to Henry Conley Hamiter, originally of Cove, Arkansas, and from Matador, Texas, and Frances Rose Krabel Hamiter, originally of Woodland, Illinois. They preceded her in death.
She leaves behind loved ones, her "sun and moon and stars" as she always felt, including her husband of 50 years, Robert W. Frizzell of Fort Smith, and their son, Chris Frizzell and his wife, Jenny, of Houston, Texas. These folks also include one brother, Roger Hamiter, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, his late wife, Meg, plus their sons and families, a goddaughter, Fiona Msechu of Kansas City, and dear friends in many places.
Sue enjoyed doing many things, including being a poet, artist-collagist, language tutor and translator, teacher (including home school), gardener, herbalist, assistant midwife-doula-childbirth educator, activist and volunteer for numerous causes, librarian, small business owner, columnist and proofreader at 3 small newspapers, member of various organizations, vegetarian and vegan cook, traveler (including independently to German), student (including as a non-traditional and independent scholar of languages), and political campaign worker.
She loved animals and nature and science, especially delighting in growing roses like her father did before her, and because her mother's name was Rose, who also loved gardening.
Sue was of the United Methodist faith, seeking to focus on the Sermon on the Mount and its message of using love as a guide to life. She believed also in the necessity of beauty, and as much, hopes to be remembered as leaving a legacy, which is a variation on Keat's epitaph, "Here Lies one whose name was writ in roses." (The original line refers to his name as "writ in water,")
A family held memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5th in the Roebuck Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, 200 N. 15th St. Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Cremation Services in Fort Smith, 914 N. 32nd St. Fort Smith, AR 72903. (479) 434-3901 or (479) 965-8202
