Samuel James "S.J." Hopkins, who resided in Caulksville, Arkansas, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born August 22, 1933 in Waxahachie, Texas to the late David Houston Hopkins and Susie Mae (Parsons) Hopkins. He was 82 years old. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Williams and Irma Hooks; one brother, D.H. Hopkins, Jr.
S.J. was a retired carpenter and owner & operator of Hopkins Construction Company. He was also a farmer and member of First Baptist Church in Ratcliff.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 24th, at First Baptist Church in Ratcliff. Burial will be at Caulksville Cemetery in Caulksville, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna (Goodwin) Hopkins; three daughters, Lynn Curtis and husband Kelvin of Caulksville, Sheryl West and husband Ron of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Alicia Meeh and husband David of Caulksville; two sons, Alan Hopkins and wife Kelly of Collierville, Tennessee and Dwayne Hopkins and wife Toni of Caulksville; one sister, Joy Taylor of Lake Frankston, Texas; one brother, Kenneth Hopkins of Palestine, Texas; (19) grandchildren and (23) great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Storey, Kennon Noble, Alexander West, Justin Hopkins, Nathan Hopkins, Casey Hopkins, Cory Hopkins and Caleb Hopkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Young, Phillip and Benjamin Coget, Garland Mays, Kevin Conkin, Clinton, Larry, and Trevor Bottoms, Dale Kellogg, Glen Wilhite, Dwayne, Justin, Casey, Alan and Caleb Hopkins, David Meeh, Chris Storey, Kevin Greb, Joe Goodwin and Bryce Plymale.
Family will visit with friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home in Charleston.
