Obituary

Sherma Ruth Granger of Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Mercy in Fort Smith. She was born on October 10, 1944, in Fort Smith to the late Sherman Charles Granger and Ora Ruth (Perry) Granger. She was 79 years old.

Sherma graduated from Lavaca High School and Arkansas Tech University, where she played basketball. She earned her Master's Degree in counseling from State College of AR in Conway. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Lota, the Epsilon state president, and an Omicron Conclave member. She retired from the Fort Smith Public school system with the majority of her time at Ramsey Junior High and Southside High School. She is a member of the First Southern Baptist of Central City. She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 2nd at First Southern Baptist Church in Central City, with Pastor Russ Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, Arkansas, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

Sherma was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jean Anthony and Fannie Lou Telaar; and a brother, Charles Granger.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Ann Caldwell of Ohio; one niece, Tina Biggerstaff and husband Robert of Lavaca; three nephews, Perry Granger of Lavaca, David Caldwell of Columbus, Ohio, and Sherman Caldwell and wife Connie of Dublin, Ohio; six great-nieces, Brittany Lynch of Ohio, Chelsea Hunt of Ohio, Charley Jo Granger of Muskogee, Megan Bruso of Greenwood, Madilyn Meador of Fort Smith, and Molly Duncan of Lavaca; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Kyle Bruso, Shane Duncan, Alex Granger, Mark Schuman, Rusty Winchester, and Robert Biggerstaff

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Reeder, Dean Gibson, Greg Piercy, and Howard Carruth.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024 at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston.
