Obituary

Ronald David Bates of Charleston, Arkansas, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on April 20, 1956, in Fort Smith to the late David Bates and Connie Hedge. He was 67 years old. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Dale Bates, and his step-mother, Wanda Bates.

Ronnie served in the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic and a roofer. His favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle, hiking with his family, playing pool and horseshoes, and loving his animals. He loved his family very much and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th at the Community Center in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Claudia (Reynolds) Bates; a daughter, Hillary Bates of Charleston; a son, Justin Bates and wife Ashley of Charleston; three sisters, Debbie Chandler and husband Allen of Van Buren, Rhonda Martin and husband Jimmy of Charleston and Kim Kincy and husband Danny of Lavaca; a brother, Danny Bates and wife Vicki of Russellville; a sister-in-law, Roxanne Bates of Charleston; and three grandchildren, Devlen Bates, Braylon Fugate and Brynleigh Bates.
