Rickey Joe "Rick" Short, who resided near Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born June 14, 1947, in Keota, Oklahoma, to the late Carl Short and Emmagene (Chambers) Short. He was 71 years old. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Dea Jai; two sisters, Rudean Radebaugh and Joann Sloan; and one brother, Shirley Short.
Rick was one of a kind. He loved fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and he loved his family. He was a hard worker. Rick was a salesman for Griffin Grocery in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Butler Paper Company, a construction contractor, and a home builder. He was a former owner of retirement centers, and owned & operated Circle S Farms, Hunting and Fishing Resort near Charleston. He operated a hawg hunter and fishing guide service in Florida for many years, and was proud owner & operator of Hawg Hunter Custom Rods. Rick was considered a professional fisherman, having entered multiple fishing circuits professionally. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A family-held memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8th, at Iron Bridge Church in Keota, Oklahoma, with Pastor Tommy Parker officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, partner, and the love of his life, ReVona "Crickett" Short; a daughter, Lisa Dawn Short of Barling; a son, Ricky Dewayne Short and wife Robin of Owasso, Oklahoma; one sister, Sue Mott and husband Dahl of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; three brothers, Carlos Short and wife Colleen of Fort Smith, Bobby Short and wife Sandra of Kibler, and Jerry Short and wife Debbie of Magazine; a granddaughter, Shelby; a grandson, Cameron Blake Short; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend and fishing partner, Jim Yandell of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
