Richard Lee Slate, who resided North of Lavaca, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 in his home.  He was born October 19, 1953 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late Leonard and Barbara (Webster) Slate.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Floyd Slate and a granddaughter, Emalie Ann Frisby.  He was 65 years old.

Richard retired from Rheem in Fort Smith as a brazer and loved the outdoor life.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston with burial at the Island Cemetery, north of Lavaca.  Arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife Sheila Slate of the home; three daughters, Cindy Downs and Phillip Ware of Rogers, Arkansas, RayAnn Wann and husband Eugene of Lavaca and Kim Frisby and husband Daniel of Hope Mills, North Carolina; five brothers, Dean Slate and Lawrence Slate of Huntington, Clinton Slate of Lowell, Aaron Slate of Sallisaw, Oklahoma and Doug Slate of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Patty Palmer of Hackett and Lois Madden of San Antonio, Texas; and four grandchildren, Blake, Tray and Tyler Werner and Austin Walchli.

Pallbearers are Blake Werner, Tray Werner, Tyler Werner, Austin Walchli, Dean Slate, Clinton Slate, Aaron Slate and Lawrence Slate.

Honorary pallbearers are Donald Slate, Harold Slate, Paul Slate, Ronnie Sampson, Roy Davis, Rick Stamper and Shelly Johnson.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home.
