Obituary

Mary Rebecca Hiatt of Charleston, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on November 22, 1931, in Dardanelle, Arkansas, to the late Rube Powers and Cornelia (McConnell) Powers. She was 91 years old.

For several years, Rebecca was a Home Economics teacher at Charleston Public Schools and taught at other public schools. In her later years, she was a homemaker and was a substitute teacher. She enjoyed traveling with her family, was a member of the Golden Eagle Camping Club, and a faithful member of Charleston First United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4th at First United Methodist Church in Charleston, with the Rev. Claire Caldwell officiating. Cremation will follow after the service. A private family burial will be Wednesday, January 11th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Don Hiatt; her daughter, Melinda Wilson and husband Donnie of Charleston; two sisters, Pat Grace of Van Buren and Sandra Rollans of Dardanelle; one brother, Jim Powers and wife Sue of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Kausha Cox and husband Tyler and Michael Wilson and wife Kayla, all of Charleston; five great-grandchildren, Callie, Gracie, Kolby, Kooper, and Kolton; and two great-great grandchildren, Laylynn and Maylee.

Pallbearers are Kolby Wilson, Kooper Wilson, Kolton Wilson, Tyler Cox, Zach Britts, and Braden Krigbaum.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3rd at the funeral home.
