IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond
Gipson
October 22, 1939 – October 18, 2023
Charles Raymond Gipson, 83, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, peacefully at home in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was born on October 22, 1939, in Barling, Arkansas, to the late Charles Edward (Charlie) and Telsie (Gage) Gipson, who produced seven children, Reba Luthena, Emma Charlene, Jimmy Donald (Jay), Katherine (Kat), Boyd Ray, and Idus Marion. Raymond was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Gipson Holt, and his second wife, Nancy Glover Gipson.
He learned to do many things throughout his life starting at an early age. Construction, assembler at Bell Helicopter and Lockheed Martin, "handy man" and always helping his family with home improvement projects. Raymond married Quillia Sue Beavers in June1958 and immediately began creating their family. He is preceded in death by his first wife Sue Beavers Holt and his 2nd wife Nancy Glover. He leaves behind 4 children that have a huge amount of respect for this man that was known for his sage wisdom ("Some say it's what you leave on this earth that shows what you did in life") and lived by "Find A Way Or Make A Way". And he did…... always respectful of others and offering to help anyone who needed it. His favorite past times were going to the Casino, playing Poker, Hunting, and Fishing and he had a huge love of horses. We are convinced in his past life he may have been a horse jockey. He was happiest when Gipson relatives were embellishing family stories and would often add his own versions.
He has two living siblings, Emma Charlene Kelly and Idus Marion Gipson. He is survived by his children, Charles Blake Gipson, Suzanne Sortman (Vince Sortman), Sara Elizabeth Behrle (Tom Behrle), and Melissa Ruth Higgins; his grandchildren, Brandon Sortman, Nathan Sortman, Kristen Sortman, Alexandra Hensley, Courtney Pelosini, Denton Asdourian, and Katherine Asdourian; followed by nine great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life will occur on Friday, October 27th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel, located at 32117 State Hwy 22 in Charleston, AR, 72933. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 pm. with the funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Milltown in Sebastian County, Arkansas, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
Pallbearers are Brandon Sortman, Nathan Sortman, Kristen Sortman, Alexandra Hensley, Courtney Pelosini, Denton Asdourian, and Katherine Asdourian.
