Obituary

LeRoy Edward "Pete" McCallister of Central City, Arkansas, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 17, 1932, in St. Clair, Missouri, to the late Calvin McCallister and Dora (Brinkman) McCallister. He was 92 years old.

For 40 years, Pete served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a past Post Commander of a VFW while living in Missouri, and he had a passion for horses.

He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Joan (Ripley) McCallister; five daughters, Melinda Smith and husband Randy of Foristell, Missouri, Julie McCallister of Gainsville, Missouri, Laura McCallister of Hillsboro, Missouri, Jennifer Karsten and husband Michael of DeDoto, Missouri, and Tiffany McCallister of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two sons, Tim McCallister and wife Vicki of St. Peters, Missouri, and Brett McCallister of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Betty Steinecker of Gerald, Missouri; (13) grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A family held memorial graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 11th at Fort Smith National Cemetery, 522 Garland Ave. Fort Smith, Arkansas  72901. Following the service, a "Celebration of Life" will be held at the family home in Central City.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
