Paul Sanderson Carruth, 90, passed away on April 18, 2024, at Grand Brook Memory Care in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born on December 24, 1933, in Camden, Arkansas, to Shelley Sanderson and Paul Fealey Carruth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leanna; stepson, Jeffrey Matten; brother Col. George Alexander Carruth, US Army (ret.); his parents, Shelley (Sanderson) Carruth and Paul Fealey Carruth; and niece, Francesca Kerpel Wenger.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Carruth Kerpel (wife of the late Frederick S. Kerpel) of Atlanta, Georgia; stepdaughter, Jill Lindsey and husband Morgan of Springdale, Arkansas; granddaughter, Amy Bull and husband John Scott of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandson, Evan Lindsey and wife Katharine of Kansas City, Missouri; great granddaughters, Ava and Svea; nephews, John Kerpel (and wife Ekaterena Berezutskaya) of Chicago, Illinois, and Stephen Carruth (and wife Karen Zhanghi) of Los Angeles, California; and niece, Shelley Stokes of Maine.
Paul graduated from Charleston High School in 1951, where he was valedictorian and from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Agriculture in 1955. He was a member of the Charleston area farming and ranching community for many years where he was the proprietor of Carruth Farms. He raised beef cattle and pioneered production of high-quality hay for his farm, other nearby farms as well as the Oklahoma Horse Racing Industry. Paul implemented innovative soil conservation practices on Carruth Farms and advocated their use across his local area. He was also a leader in his community, serving on the local water board in the Ursula area where he lived and working with local water utilities to bring safe drinking water to everyone there. In 2014 Carruth Farms was honored by the Arkansas Century Farm Programs for farms owned by the same family for over 100 years.
Paul also served his country in the US Army Reserves from 1956 to 1975, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
A family held memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29th at First United Methodist Church, 1205 E. Main St, Charleston, Ar, with Rev. Claire Thompson officiating.
Memorials may be made in the form of donations to the Arkansas Future Farmers of America, the Stepping Stone School or the Charleston First United Methodist Church.
