Obituary
Mildred Hammersly Wofford, age 97, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Chapel Ridge Health and Rehab in Fort Smith. She was born October 18, 1913 in Fort Smith to the late Hugh H. Hammersly Sr. and Stella Mae (Friddle) Hammersly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, James Grey Wofford and by a daughter, Nancy Wofford Denny.
Mildred was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Smith and later of Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren. She was an avid reader and loved to play bingo.
She will be buried alongside her late husband in Georgia. Arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
Mildred is survived by one daughter, Marijane Brown of Charleston; one son, Edward Wofford of Charleston; one brother, Hugh H. Hammersly Jr. of Fort Smith; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
