Mellie Louise Hood, who resided near Paris, Arkansas, died Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on January 28, 1947, in Gideon, Missouri, to the late Willie Harmon Malding and Elsie Marie (Harper) Malding. She was 77 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, James Stephen Hood; a daughter, Pamela James; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Hood; a great-granddaughter, Presley Rose Hood; a sister, Patsy Ann Mink; and a brother, Larry Wesley Malding.
Mellie was a homemaker. She loved her family very much and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 29th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris. Burial will be at Fort Smith National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 30th. No services at the cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, James Hood and wife Jan of Paris, Robert Hood and wife Lori of Dinuba, California, and John Hood and wife Lisa of Ozark; two sisters, Opal Carr and husband Paul and Terrie Wright, all of Charleston; three brothers, Leon Malding and wife Jan of Clovis, California, Kenneth Malding and wife Cynthia of Madera, California, and Dennis Malding and wife Maria of Dyer; a step-daughter, Misty Kelm of Siloam Springs; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends on Monday prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will start at 1:00 p.m.
