Matthew Wesley Powell, who resided near Charleston, Arkansas, died Monday, October 17, 2022, at his home. He was born on October 15, 1966, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Michael E. Powell and Mary Alice (Foster) Powell. He was 56 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael E. Powell, and a brother, Tracy Powell.
Matthew served in the U.S. Army and was a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston. He loved his family, loved his dogs, and was a huge supporter of the Charleston Dog Shelter. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial, with military honors, will be at Barling City Cemetery in Barling, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Pastor Artie Hudson, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Trina (Friddle) Powell; two daughters, Samantha Parker of Charleston and Whitney Cornell of Poteau, Oklahoma; his mother, Mary Powell of Charleston; four brothers, Stacy Powell and wife Kristy of Fort Smith, Stanley Powell and wife Ellen of Lavaca, Keith Powell and wife Tawnya of Texas, and Don Powell of Texas; four grandchildren, Austin Cornell, Annabelle Cornell, Evelyn King, and Daphne King, all of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Powell, Steven Brown, Howard Gossett, Sammie Brown, Brent Gibbens, Phillip King, and Wally Haynes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Reed Haynes, Terry Jones, and Doug Moore.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday beginning at 1:00 p.m. an hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m.
