Obituary

Lynn Swope Coss, 84, of Charleston, Arkansas, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 20, 2016, in Charleston. She was born December 2, 1931, in Georgetown, LA, to Johnny and Oleta Swope.

Lynn grew up in Georgetown and attended Georgetown High School. She graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA, at the age of 19 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She moved to Monroe, LA where she met and married Ray Coss, and began a family. They lived in several locations in Louisiana throughout their marriage, but home was considered to be Shreveport, LA, where they lived for over 40 years. She was an active member of the Central Christian Church in Shreveport.

Lynn was an avid collector of Hallmark Christmas ornaments, and one of the great pleasures of her life was celebrating the Christmas season. She loved for family, neighbors, and especially children to enjoy the wonder of her magnificently decorated Christmas tree and village arrangement. Lynn was also a fantastic cook, specializing in true Southern cooking. She was an accomplished seamstress with Barbie clothes being a specialty. She was an avid back-yard birdwatcher and animal lover. She also loved fishing and playing games with friends and family. Many Scrabble, Rook, and Mexican Train competitions went late into the evening.

Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Oleta Swope of Georgetown, LA, and her husband of 60 years, Ray Coss of Cossville, MO. She leaves behind four children, Karen Limbird and her husband Mark of Scranton, AR, Carey Coss of Nashville, TN, David Coss of Cossville, MO, and Laurin Coss of Sarasota, FL. She also has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Missouri on Monday, October 24th, at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon, with the Rev. Vondal Davenport officiating the service. Funeral arrangements and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris, Arkansas.

The family of Lynn Coss would like to extend their profound thanks to the staff of Greenhurst Nursing Center for the loving, respectful care given to her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Alzheimer's charity of your choosing.
