Lyla Jean "Richelle" Schmalz Hellums resided at Charleston, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, October 9, 2008, near Charleston in a automobile accident. She was born June 28, 1982, in Fort Smith to Jackie C. Schmalz and Nancy Jean Flanagan Schmalz. Lyla was 26 years old.
She was a 2000 graduate of Charleston High School and a 2005 graduate of Arkansas State University. She attended the Cecil United Methodist Church. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Vern Wilson.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston with burial at Hampton Cemetery, north of Branch, under the direction of the Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Hellums, of the home; one step-daughter, Taylor Hellums of Batesville, Arkansas; her mother & step-father, Nancy Flanagan & Pierre Meador of Charleston; her father & step-mother, Jack & Denise Schmalz of Charleston; two sisters, Libby Pillstrom of Charleston and Lee Schmalz of Charleston; one step-sister, Teri Erwin of Brenham, Texas; her maternal grandmother, Jean Flanagan of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Josh Watson, Bryan Buckner, Enoch Batchelor, Curtis Batchelor, Larry Holland, Brooks Simkins, Dustin Little, and Nicholas DuVall.
