Leota Louise Powers, who resided in Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at her home. She was born on February 18, 1935, in Tryon, Oklahoma, to the late George Breeden and Thelma (Nickelson) Breeden. She was 86 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis Powers, who passed away in 2011; three brothers, Jack Breeden, Frank Breeden, Don Breeden, and a sister, Norma Leigh.
Louise married James Curtis Powers in Plainview, Arkansas, in Yell County and started a home in Stillwater, Oklahoma in the early 1950's. Louise was a graduate of Oklahoma School of Beauty and for several years, Louise was owner and operator of Louise's Hair Shop. Her hobbies included walking, being outdoors, painting, cooking, baking, and enjoyed music, especially old hymns and old country music. She was a devoted Christian and she loved taking care of her family, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by her family and friends and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Bro. Russ Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, located east of Lavaca, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Powers of Lavaca; a son, Mike Powers of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Kelly Higdon and husband Ryan of Wister, Oklahoma, Scott Long and wife Candice, Tyler Powers and wife Kimberly, all of Lavaca, Jeff Powers and wife Jamie of Mansfield; ten great-grandchildren, Adi Jo, Wes, and Peyton Higdon, Zoe Kristofik, Gus and Reese Long, Carter and Fisher Powers, and Holden and Jemma Powers.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home in Charleston.
