Linda Kay Breen of Central City, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born on January 9, 1943, in Charleston, Arkansas, to the late Gene VanMeter and Louise (Tolbert) VanMeter. She was 83 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Richard (Rick) Breen; and a son, Gary Cross.
Linda was a graduate of Charleston High School. For many years, Linda worked at the shirt factory in Charleston, Today's Kids Toy Factory in Booneville, and Sam's Club in Fort Smith. She loved to travel and go sightseeing, work in her flower beds at home, and she loved her family very much. Linda was a member of Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church in Bloomer.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Bro. Jimmy Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter, Ginger Harris of Charleston; two sons, Del Cross of San Francisco, California, and Larry Cross of Prosper, Texas; two sisters, Jeanne Tate and husband David of Lavaca and Patti Anzar and husband Ernest of Anderson, Missouri; six grandchildren, Cody Cross, Jarred Cross, Levi Harris, Josh Harris, Mikayla Smith, and Bethany Smith; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Levi Harris, Josh Harris, Justin Tate, Jamie Young, David Bender, and Lucas Hyde.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
