Robert Leon Meyer of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 12, 1947, in Fort Smith to the late Hiram B. Meyer and Rose Henrietta (Toon) Meyer. He was 77 years old.
Leon was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and worked 35 years at Whirlpool, Inc. in Fort Smith. He was an avid fisherman and faithful member of Lavaca First Baptist Church. He loved his family very much and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A memorial graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 5th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with Pastor Steven Smithson officiating. Following the graveside service, a memorial church service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lavaca, with Pastor Steven Smithson officiating, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Barbara (Hunter) Meyer; two daughters, Tonia Gander and Scott and Kristy Dupont and Troy; three sisters, Edith Brown, Terri Lee Bolton and Mary Spurlin; two brothers, Eugene Meyer and Doug Tomlin; four grandchildren, Lije Parker and Kelley, Spencer Dupont, Lauren Gander and Hunter Gander and their father Jody Gander; and two great-grandchildren, Everett Parker and Emma Parker.
Cremation and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
