Lee Roy Jarrett of Greenwood, Arkansas, died Friday, September 27, 2024, at Ashton Place Health & Rehab Center in Barling, Arkansas. He was born on January 22, 1937, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, to the late Dan Jarrett and Sarah Verneal (Payne) Jarrett. He was 87 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Maxine (Fowler) Jarrett; a sister, Mary Jarrett; and brothers, Gerald Ray Jarrett (Infant), Norman Jarrett, Paul Jarrett, Larry Jarrett, and Billy Don Jarrett.
Lee Roy was a 1957 graduate of Tuckerman High School. On November 17, 1956, he married Maxine Fowler at the Church of Christ in Tuckerman. For 6 years, he was a Staff Sergeant in the Arkansas National Guard and Indiana National Guard. During his working career, Lee Roy was a funeral director at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport, Arkansas, a chef for Brown and Root in Morgan City, Louisiana, a deputy sheriff in Jackson County, a bounty hunter, manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken, grocery store butcher and bakery manager, a machinist at Rohr, Inc., a professional fireman and E.M.T. in Goshen, Indiana; furniture factory owner in Goshen, Indiana, owner and operator of a lawn care service in Indiana, chef at Olive Garden Restaurants in Branson, Missouri and Fort Smith, owned and operated two restaurants in Heber Springs, bus driver for Letsgo Transportation in Fort Smith, and former president of Heber Springs Humane Society. Lee Roy was a member of the Moose Club, Lions Club International, Elks Club, Optimist Club, charter member of Sertoma International, past member of Lavaca First Baptist Church and current member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood. He loved being a volunteer for the Arkansas Junior Angus Association and National Junior Angus Association, and being associated with Belle Point Ranch annual cattle sale. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1st at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with his grandson, Jarrett Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Prior to the service, the family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. until funeral time.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonja Martin and husband Mark of Lavaca; a grandson, Jarrett Martin and wife Sarah of Greenwood; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Maxine Martin; his sister, Linda Sweet Carpenter and husband John of Georgia, whom he called "Little Sister" and she called him "Big Brother"; and several nieces and nephews.
