Obituary

Laura "Lou" Schwinge, who resided in Charleston, Arkansas, formerly of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. She was born February 28, 1917 in San Antonio to the late Gustav August Pape and Lenora Annie (Buch) Pape. She was 94 years old.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otto F. Schwinge; one daughter, Christine Roberts; one grandson, Troy Eugene Roberts; six sisters, Margaret Tucker, Lottie Phipps, Mildred Cofield, Norma Crosthwaite, Ruby Cates, and Evelyn Newton; one brother, Gus Pape.

She was born and raised in San Antonio. Lou moved in her later years to Skyler Estates in Charleston, Arkansas. She was a very active lady. In her earlier years, she was an enthusiastic seamstress who even sewed the Edison High School of San Antonio, Texas cheerleaders' uniforms. She created other fashions for numerous family members and close friends. She was an avid gardener, and at one time she maintained over 50 varieties of iris. She continued to care for her flowers until the age of 93 at which time she no longer was able. She was accompanied by her puppy "Chico" wherever she went.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10th at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio, under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas.

She is survived by one son, Gene O. Schwinge and wife Roxanna of Devine, Texas; three grandchildren, Gene O. Schwinge, Jr. and spouse Juli McCrary, Roxanna "Kitty" Rushing and husband Johnny, and Laura Epley; four great grandchildren, Jenna and Dakota Rushing and Julie and Phillip Rodriguez. She also leaves behind four nieces and nephews, Ralph Cates, Josephine Schrader, and Dennis and Brian Pape.

Family will visit with friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9th at the funeral home.
