Obituary

Laverne Darlene Mayes, who resided near Charleston, Arkansas, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Mercy Hospice in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on March 22, 1939, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was 85 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Alexander Lemmon and Genevieve C. (Smith) Lemmon; a son, Jerry Van Dorsey, II; and a daughter, Sherry Marie Stickler.

Darlene was an excellent bowler and over the years was a member of different bowling leagues. She enjoyed sewing, riding horses, going to the casino, and traveling. She loved her family very much and she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Terry Kankey of Charleston; a brother, Richard Lemmon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
