Josephine Louise "Josie" Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Friday, November 24, 2023, in Heart of Hospice Impatient Unit at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born on August 29, 1953, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Albert M. Thomas and Pansy Ellen (Cox) Thomas. She was 70 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Hailey; two brothers, Mickey Thomas and Keith Thomas; three sisters, Patsy Chmielewski, Jean Blaylock and Marlena Johnson; her step-mother, Betty Thomas; and a nephew, Donnie Walters.

For several years, Josie was the store manager at Dollar General on Grand Ave. in Fort Smith and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Gary Smith; two daughters, Michelle Castro and husband Manuel of Hackett and Pamela Brown and husband Chris Mills of Fort Smith;  a son, James Hailey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; (19) grandchildren and (4) great-grandchildren.
