John Omer Fowler, who resided in Barling, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born May 21, 1922 in Mayfield, Kansas to the late William A. Fowler and Pearl Mae (Harrison) Fowler. He was 91 years old. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jewel Fowler; one son, Charles Lee Fowler; one step-daughter, Kaye Jansen; one granddaughter, Durina Lester; one sister, Pauline Davis; and two brothers, Clarence and Bill Fowler; and two sons-in-law, Jerry Head and Ronald Beene.
John was a retired master plumber for over 30 years at Fort Chaffee. He was an Army WWII veteran, member of the VFW, was an avid fisherman, and attended West-Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 18th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Seth Young officiating. Burial will be at Infant Cemetery, south of Caulksville in Logan County, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of almost 24 years, Nelda (Hair) Williams Fowler; four daughters, Glenda Beene of Barling, Alvetta Wipf and husband Delbert of Barling; Jewel Dean "Judy" Avery and husband John of Little Rock, and Johna Gaddis and husband Steve of Fort Smith; two step-sons, Gene Williams and wife Ellen of Reno, Nevada and Scott Williams and wife Carol of Huntsville, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Margie Fowler of Barling; two sisters, Dorothy Carroll of Fort Smith and Eva Bynum of Van Buren; one brother, Marion Fowler of Mansfield, Louisiana; (8) grandchildren, (2) step-grandchildren, (14) great-grandchildren, and (3) great great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charles David Fowler, Johnny Fowler, Michael Wipf, Delbert Wipf, John Avery, and Steve Gaddis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Delphin Linson, Don Furhman, Robert McClain, Dennis Fowler, Earl Flood, Richard Bullard, John Samuel Gaddis, Matthew Williams, and Jonathan Williams.
Family will visit with friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
