The Lord called John David Flanagan, of Paris, home from his family's arms on Sunday, September 21, 2025. He was born to the late Paul Callans and Janice Esta (McGee) Flanagan. He was proud to have made it to 78 1/2 years of age which made him the longest lived member of his immediate family. Death had claimed two brothers, Thomas Lee Flanagan and Paul Michael Flanagan and a sister, Martha Dale Flanagan Acoach, at much earlier ages.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Jean (Gattis) Flanagan; two daughters, Dawn Guinnip and husband Dale, whom he called his red-headed son-in-law, of Paris and Ashley Flanagan of Fayetteville; his sister, Sarah Summerall and husband R.V. of Charleston; and his brother, Joe Flanagan of Charleston.
John was a 1965 graduate of Charleston High School. He was a Vietnam War era veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a lifelong Methodist and until recent years a very active member of the Paris First United Methodist Church.
His family will honor John with a Celebration of Life with military honors at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Paris First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Palmer officiating, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
Donna, Dawn, and Ashley will visit with family and friends at a reception in the Fellowship Hall (basement) immediately following the service. Inurnment of cremains will be a family affair at a later date.
