IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joanne Elizabeth
Porter
February 1, 1939 – May 1, 2024
Joanne E. Porter, age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joanne Elizabeth Klug was born on February 1, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, where she spent her formative years. She went on to attend school in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, California. She had several careers through her life. Most notable were chain restaurant manager and crafts instructor for Michael's and Joanne's Fabric. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. But more than anything, Joanne was a devoted matriarch. She loved spending time with all the children in our family, sharing stories, doing puzzles, cooking. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.
In her free time, Joanne enjoyed reading, crafts and gardening, and was always eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. She was an active member of her community, volunteering for various causes and organizations.
Joanne (Mom, or Gram-ma Jo) was preceded by her parents, Albert and Irma Klug; her brother, Richard Klug; her daughter, Connie Oswald and late husband Ray Porter. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Ric) and James (Jim) Menzies; son-in-law, Rick Oswald; her grandchildren, Trevor, Chris, Joanne (Joey), Bobby, Jessica; her sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
A private gathering will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any animal rescue group.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Cremation Services, 914 N. 32nd St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72903. (479) 434-3901 or (479) 965-8202.
