Joan Lee Dewey, who resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith. She was born September 20, 1941, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to the late Curtis Newton Christy and Dorothy E. Spear Christy. She was 79 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Dewey; and one sister, Paulette Blass.
Joan retired and worked many years as an office manager at an apartment complex. She was of the Methodist faith.
Joan's cremains will be placed in the columbarium next to her husband, Richard L. Dewey, at the U.S. National Cemetery in Florida, at a later date.
She is survived by her son, Lee Dewey and wife Terresa of Fort Smith; her step-children, Dick Dewey and wife Penny of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Mark Dewey and wife Joann of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Wanda Merriett and husband Dick of Wildwood, Florida; two sisters, Barbara Hittle of Fort Smith and Gail Lammers and husband Jim of Kansas City; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
