James Ladelle "Jim" Reed, who resided in Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born August 26, 1952, in Helena, Arkansas, to the late Deward L. Reed and Alma Irene (Snyder) Reed. He was 65 years old. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Scott Allen Reed and a sister, Mary Virginia Reed.
Jim worked 26 years as an Arkansas State Trooper, and a retired senior corporal for the Arkansas State Police Department. He was a member of Arkansas State Police Association and he was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2nd, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial, with Arkansas State Police Honors, will be at McKendree Cemetery, located north of Subiaco, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda (Watts) Reed; a daughter, Sarah Reed and companion LeKevin Young of Arlington, Texas; a son, Steve Ward and wife Lara of Siloam Springs; four sisters, Irene Kelley and husband Henry, Sue Polk, Grace Reed, and Linda Shoop and husband Jim, all of Heber Springs; two brothers, George Reed and wife Awanda of Russellville and Robert Reed and wife Roberta of Blodgett, Missouri; three granddaughters, Emily and Allison Hooks and Zamira Young; a special sister-in-law, Marilyn Watts of Lavaca.
Pallbearers will be Tom Kaufenberg, Mark Rowlett, James Reed, Jeffery Reed, Daniel Fulmer, and Alex Sylvester.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Arkansas State Police Honor Guard Team.
The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home in Charleston.
