Obituary

Jesse Lee Chasteen, who resided in Van Buren, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born October 15, 1926, in Judsonia, Arkansas to the late Sam Chasteen and Nora Alta (Wise) Chasteen. He was 91 years old. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Ellis) Chasteen; two sisters, Lorene Summers and Roberta Windland; and one brother, Carl Chasteen.

Jesse was a WWII and Korean War U.S. Navy veteran and served 30 years in the U.S. Navy/Naval Reserves. He was part of the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Seabees, form the Naval Construction Force (NCF) of the U.S. Navy. He also sailed on the USS Bushnell As-15. Jesse was a painter, a member of the Painter's Union, and member of New Life Church in Van Buren.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2nd, at New Life Church in Van Buren, with Pastor Bob White officiating. Burial, "With Full Military Honors" will be at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Adams and husband Ray of Mountain View, Arkansas and Susan Madron and husband Rick of Holdenville, Oklahoma; three sons, Daniel Lee Chasteen of Richmond, Virginia, Leonard Paul Chasteen of Fort Smith, and Aaron Chasteen and wife Bridget of Fort Smith; one sister, Frances Duncan of Heber Springs; one brother, James Chasteen and wife Faye of Garfield, Arkansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
