Obituary

Jerry Loyd Speer, who resided in Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born October 21, 1945, in Booneville, Arkansas to the late Bernie Loyd Speer and Attie Faye (Pearson) Speer. He was 70 years old.

Jerry was a 26 year retired SSG veteran in the U.S. Army National Guard. He worked for Arkansas Wilbert Vault Company for several years and retired from Doric Vault Company in Lavaca. Jerry was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 19th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Harlan Brewton and Mr. James Fouts officiating. Burial (With Full Military Honors) will be at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his two sons, Paul Speer of Charleston and David Speer of Alma; one step-daughter, Heather Coughran of Roland, Oklahoma; one sister, Janet Roberts and husband Charles Ray of Mena; two grandsons, J.D. and Samuel; and one step-grandson, Noah.

Pallbearers will be the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Family will visit with friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Peachtree Hospice @ 2910 Jenny Lind Road, #4 Fort Smith, AR 72901.
