Obituary

Jerry Thayer McDonald, who resided in Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born November 19, 1943, in Charleston to the late Orville McDonald and Alvena (Gramlich) McDonald. He was 73 years old. He was also preceded in death by two infant daughters, Paula Diane and Jennifer Leigh.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Charleston High School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was a retired agri teacher at Booneville High School and he also taught at Scranton High School. He was a full-time cattle rancher and poultry farmer, a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, and he continued to support the National FFA Chapters. Jerry was a member of the 20 year Agriculture Teachers Club, and he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston.

Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 19th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (Campbell) McDonald; two sons, Rusty McDonald and wife Jennifer and Joel McDonald and wife Deidra, all of Charleston; one sister, Ginger Abernathy and husband Jim of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Willie McDonald and wife Donna of Charleston; five grandchildren, Jeremy McDonald and wife Sara Beth, Andy McDonald, Ryan McDonald, Shaun Barnett and husband Cody and Colton McDonald.

Pallbearers will be Tony Miesner, Dr. Charles Miesner, Albert White, Paul David Gramlich, Gary Gray, Jimmy Tanner, Hayden McDonald, and Mason McDonald.

The family will visit with friends following the rosary service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to the FFA Chapter at Booneville High School @ 945 N. Plum St. Booneville, AR 72927.
