Obituary

Jerry Wayne Hayes resided in Charleston, Arkansas, entered into eternity Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his home. He was born January 14, 1939 in Charleston to the late George Hayes and Farrah (Bonner) Hayes. He was 71 years old.

Jerry died peacefully at home two months after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He was a member of the Branch Church of Christ and loved talking to people about the goodness of God and spiritual salvation. He was a dedicated Charleston Tiger athletic/band supporter and served on the Tiger Friday night football "Chain Gang" for 42 years. During his lifetime, he enjoyed coaching little league basketball and baseball, as well as fishing trips to the White River, golfing, and growing a vegetable garden each year. Jerry was a proud member of the Charleston High School Class of 1957, a self-employed tile setter for 50 years and co-owner of Hayes Tile and Cabinetry in Ratcliff.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18th at the Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Mr. Mike Eppinette and Mr. Larry Bean officiating. Interment will be at Parks Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 52 years, Joy Lynn (Lawrence) Hayes; three daughters, Sherry Stubblefield and husband Dennis of Charleston, Mechele Deggs and husband Billy of Deridder, LA., and Kerri Neighbors and husband Mark of Bentonville; one son, Jeff Hayes and wife Susan of Charleston; two brothers, Billy Don Hayes of Conway and David Hayes of Van Buren; nine grandchildren, Andrew Stubblefield and wife Amanda, Willie and Waylon Stubblefield, and Hannah and Hayden Hayes, all of Charleston, Danielle Doyle and husband Benji, and Katybeth Stewart, all of Deridder, LA., and Chloe and Madison Neighbors of Bentonville.

Pallbearers will be Dan Bonnet, Hobart Chronister, Jim Kiger, Levi Moore, Eugene Toby, and Jimmy Van Meter.

Family will visit with friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home.

Jerry along with his grandson Hayden had set aside some money to be donated to "Smile Train, Changing The World One Smile At A Time", an organization for children in desperate need of cleft lip and palate surgery.
