Jefferson Byrd Vangundy, Sr. resided at Lavaca, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, October 31, 2008, in a Fort Smith hospital.  He was born April 4, 1929, in Pulaski County, Indiana, to the late Carl Vangundy & Florence Liming Vangundy.  He was 79 years old.

He was the plant manager for 43 years at GenCorp in Fort Smith, served as an Executive Board Member of Bost Human Development Center, was a member of the Manufacturing Executive Association, Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, and the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from May 1950 until December 1953 as a Radar Mechanic, spending most of his time in Alaska.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Florence Vangundy; infant brother, Wayne Devon Vangundy; a brother and sister-in-law, Colonel & Gertrude Vangundy; and a granddaughter, Amber Vangundy.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with burial at the Oak Valley Cemetery "With Military Honors," under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Vangundy of the home; four sons, Jeff Vangundy, Jr. & wife Teresa of North Webster, Indiana, David Vangundy & wife Jeanette of Ada, Oklahoma, Ray Blaylock & wife Amy of Conway, and Michael Blaylock & wife Kim of Van Buren; one daughter, Lynn Tesmer & husband Randy of Corsicana, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by three brothers, Ralph Vangundy of Martinton, Illinois, Harold Vangundy of North Salem, Indiana, and Glenn Vangundy of Plainfield, Indiana; three sisters, Eileen Vangundy of Lexington, North Carolina, Lucy Van Dorn of Bloomington, Illinois, and Mary Ann Phillips of Clayton, Indiana.

Pall Bearers will be his grandchildren.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be Bob Blanchfill, Woody Nutter, Merl Brown, John Kohler, Bruce Rowan, Glenn Hall, Mike Wilhelm, Mike Bare, Bob Gale, Jack Faulkner, and Bud Cooksey.
