Vera Jean Flanagan, who resided in Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born July 6, 1923 in Charleston to the late William Lee King and Ethel (Milam) King. She was 94 years old. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Flanagan; one granddaughter, Lyla Schmalz; one sister, Mary Jane Rayburn; and two brothers, James Thomas King and William K. King.

Jean was a homemaker, and she was also known as the boss. She was a 1941 graduate of Cecil High School. She was an avid gardener, a yellow dog democrat, and she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Charleston.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25th, at First United Methodist Church in Charleston. Burial will be at Hampton Cemetery, located north of Branch, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Flanagan and companion Pierre Meador of Charleston; her son, Rick Flanagan and companion Carol Caplinger of Charleston; two granddaughters, Libby Schmalz Pillstrom and Lee Schmalz Buckner and husband William, all of Charleston; three great-grandchildren, Warren Pillstrom, Alec Buckner and Lauren Buckner.

Pallbearers will be Warren Pillstrom, Alec Buckner, Wade Caplinger, Sean Flanagan, Justin Flanagan, Callans Flanagan, and Jonas Schaffer.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
