J.C. Moore, 95, of Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. He was born on August 15, 1926, in the Ursula Community near Charleston to the late Clinton M. Moore and Cornelia (Burchfield) Moore. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Doris (Frazier) Moore; his sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Joe Hiatt; and a great-granddaughter, Medley Ann Wilson.
J.C. was a 1943 graduate of Charleston High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. J.C. was a cattleman and along with his son Jim, owned and operated Moore Cattle Company. J.C. loved to bird hunt, he was a Mason, and member of First United Methodist Church in Charleston.
J.C., who received an "Eagle Award," was a man who not only had a distinguished military career, but also worked tirelessly for more than 30 years as a community volunteer. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, on December 22, 1945. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and commanded the 95th Division, 2nd Battalion, 379th Regiment of Army Reserve. He faithfully served in the U.S. Army for over 29 years. J.C. served on the Charleston City Council, Charleston School Board, and South Franklin County Fair Board, as well as many other community organizations. For many years, J.C. was the rodeo announcer at local rodeos and was a sports announcer at the Charleston Tigers football games.
J.C. was appointed to the Charleston Park Commission in the late 1970s and was the driving force behind the construction of the baseball field located at the city park. He will always be remembered for his tireless volunteer work on behalf of the Charleston Little League and the Tri-County Little League. He literally devoted thousands of hours ensuring that kids in the Charleston area have an outstanding summer baseball and softball program.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24th at First United Methodist Church in Charleston. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Parks Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Moore Flynn and husband Mike of Charleston; his son, Jim Moore and wife Missy of Charleston; five grandchildren, Rebel Flynn Wilson and husband Mark of Little Rock, Cody Flynn and wife Michele of Charleston, Morgan Moore Horn and husband Carson of Little Rock, Chelsea Moore of Fayetteville, and Clint Moore and wife Taylor of Fayetteville; and four great-grandchildren, Storm Wilson, Flynn Wilson, Maddy Flynn, and Dylan Flynn.
Pallbearers serving will be his grandchildren and the U.S. Army Honor Guard Team.
The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23rd at the funeral home.
