James William Stubblefield, 93, of Bloomer, Arkansas, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on March 7, 1933, on Mill Creek Mountain in Vesta, Arkansas, to the late Orb and Emma Maud Stubblefield. James, known as "Stubb" to family and friends, was a graduate of Charleston High School where he was an all-state/all-district football player. He served in the Korean War as a corporal during Operation Glory then continued his education at the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Services. James and his wife, Shirley, raised their three boys on their farm in Bloomer, Arkansas, where they had a grade A dairy for over twenty years and beef producing cattle for an additional thirty plus years. James was dedicated to his work as a cattleman often rising early and returning home late. His strong work ethic and determination once earned their farm the title of Sebastian County Farm Family of the Year. James was an avid trout fisherman, cattleman, FHA board member, member of the Methodist Church, and loved by many. James was once drafted as a bus driver for the Charleston School District during his senior year in which he drove the route to Vesta without ever having a valid driver’s license!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orb Allen Stubblefield and Emma Maud (Davis) Stubblefield; three brothers, H.T. “Tottie” Stubblefield, Orb Allen Jr. Stubblefield, and Jerry Stubblefield; and four sisters, Faye Robertson, Regean Howard, Angeline White, and Sarah Stubblefield.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 11th from 5-7 p.m. at Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley (Orsburn) Stubblefield; his children, James Stubblefield Jr. and wife Jody, Jeff Stubblefield and his companion Misty Hiatt, and Joe Stubblefield and wife Missy; five grandchildren, James Stubblefield III and wife Julie, Nikki Hastings and husband Lee, Lee Stubblefield and wife Alicia, Emily Stubblefield, and Braxton Stubblefield and wife Emily; six great-grandchildren, Mary Hardin and Harry Hastings, Lukas, Ava, and Liam Stubblefield, and Amelia Stubblefield.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Jo Ann Neissl Woods, Sara Beth McDonald, Sarah Fisher, Hailey Smith, Serenity Powell, Brandie Rogers, and Madison Keeton who loved and cared for James these past few years.
There will be a private graveside service held at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston. Pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
