James Newt Lewis, who resided near Cecil, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his home. He was born on December 8, 1949, in Russellville, Arkansas, to the late Jones A. and Walsie Jane (Nuckles) Lewis. He was 72 years old. He was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnn Parton and Judy Castro; two brothers, Lynn Lewis and Randy Lewis; and two grandsons, Dalton Lewis and Hunter Lewis.
James was a retired ready-mix driver for Arkhola Sand and Gravel. He was an U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, and served as deacon and member of Enterprise Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 24th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Buddy Corbell officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Minnie (McConnell) Lewis of the home; two sons, James W. Lewis and wife April of Rogers and Joe W. Lewis and wife Autumn of Bloomer; one daughter, Annie J. Lewis of Cecil; three sisters, Janice Edgemon and husband John of Danville, Sue Graham of Ozark and Lisa Gooch and husband Wayne of Danville; eight grandchildren, Paige, Jacinda, Cheyenne, Mollie, Xander, Ethan, Dominic and Roman; and three great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Rhylynn and Caston.
Pallbearers are James W. Lewis, Joe W. Lewis, Wayne Irelan, Keith Dunn, Matt Kaler, and D.J. Jones.
The family will visit with friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
