James Lewis "Coop" Cooper, 65, of Charleston passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in Fort Smith. He was born May, 26, 1941, in Paris to Robert Arthur Cooper and Bessie Mae Hill Cooper. He was a retired senior sales rep for Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Kansas City, member of the Big "L" Hunting Club in Carthage, Mo., past member of the Fort Smith Bass Club, past director for the Arkansas B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation, part-time funeral director for Brotherton Brothers Funeral Homes, worked part-time for Hug Chevrolet in Charleston, member of the First Baptist Church choir and member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston.James was an avid Christian sportsman, well-known across the area and state as a competitive bass fisherman. He was on the board of directors for the Arkansas Bass Association for many years, and an in-field tester for Bill Norman Lures. He promoted the annual Heart Fund Tournament and considered it to be one of the many ways in which he could help fight heart disease.He was a great mentor in many ways to many people. No one was a stranger, he always had a smile no matter the circumstance, and had a deep compassion for people who needed comforting.Mark and Robin had a wonderful father, and his granddaughter, Alexandria, was the light of his life; he considered her to be the icing on the cake to a fulfilling life. He thanked God every day for his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate, Patricia of nearly 45 years; a daughter, Robin Cooper of Charleston; a son, Mark of North Little Rock; one granddaughter, Alexandria Cooper of Bentonville; three sisters, Mary Morgan and husband Ed of Tulsa, Millie Lowe of Tulsa and Jeannie Jones and husband Keith of Grove, Okla.; three brothers-in-law, Dennis Price and wife Jean of Charleston, David Price and wife Judy of Branch, and Ronnie and wife Gina of Paris; mother-in-law, Billie Price of Charleston; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother.Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at the Brotherton Brothers Funeral Chapel in Charleston with burial at Garden of Memories in Charleston under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Charleston.Pallbearers will be Dennis, David and Ronnie Price, Keith Jones, Ed Morgan, Glenn Headley, Joe Cloven and Jesse McLaurin.Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Lowe, David Alexander, Kenny Rucker, Frank Francis, Eric Keddie, Ray Lusk, Tommy Brown, Leon Mudd and members of the Adult II Men's Sunday school class.
