Jack Craython Bowen of Lavaca, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at his home. He was born on November 24, 1937, in Monroe County, Mississippi, to the late Willie Bowen and Bertha Jane (Perkins) Bowen. He was 85 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
Jack worked in the oil field till he retired. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed being with his family and loved his family very much. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, loved basketball, especially going to Lavaca basketball games and rarely missed a game for many years, and gardening, especially growing tomatoes, the bigger the better. Jack was a member of Valley View Church of Christ in Greenwood.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 21st, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Officiating the service will be Mr. Adam Hollinsaid.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carolyn (Brown) Bowen; his children, Debbie Griffin and husband Joe of Lavaca, Eddie Bowen of New Caney, Texas, Tina Brewer and husband Barry of Lavaca and Terri Arredondo and husband Michael of Lavaca; a step-daughter, Susan Hayes and husband Jeff of Charleston; a sister, Patricia Williams of Aberdeen, Mississippi; three brothers, Marvin Bowen of Memphis, Tennessee, R.C. Bowen and wife Barbara of Fort Smith and Jerry Bowen and wife Sandra of West Point, Mississippi; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Tyler Arredondo, Tyler Blasdel, Andy Griffin, Phillip Neblick, Ryan Chronister and Hayden Hayes.
Honorary pallbearers will be team members of the 2022 2A Lavaca Golden Arrow State Championship Basketball Team.
In honor of Jack's love for Lavaca Golden Arrow sports, memorials can be made to Lavaca Public Schools Athletic Department, P.O. Box 8 Lavaca, AR 72941.
Public viewing will begin Wednesday, September 20th from 8:00am to 7:00pm and Thursday, September 21st from 8:00am to 12:00pm at Funeral Home.
