Obituary

James "Hoyt" Weaver, a beloved soul to everyone he met finished his race on Saturday, August 19, 2023, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 26, 1942, in Charleston, Arkansas, to the late Bill Weaver and Mary Laurene (Williams) Weaver. He was 80 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 50 years, Jessie Weaver; a daughter, Donna Buechley; a sister, Linda Scrivner; a brother, Ronald Weaver; and a son-in-law, Danny Birch.

Hoyt was a graduate of Lavaca High School. He was a very skillful racehorse trainer which led to many pictures in the winners circle. When he wasn't betting on horses, he was trying his best to light up on those machines at the casino which he had better luck splitting a burger with his buddy Carol Cass. He was a handy man. He could fix and build anything he got his hands on. His family never worried about anything getting stolen because he had everything so jerry rigged, you more than likely couldn't start something without a "secret passcode." He loved his family dearly and will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 24th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Bro. Tony Bias officiating the service. The family will visit with friends beginning at 3:00 p.m., an hour prior to the memorial service.

He is survived by his daughter, Jammie Birch of Lavaca; his son, Billy Hoyt Weaver of Lavaca; two sisters, Pat Graham and husband Frank and Lesa Sotherland, both of Lavaca; four brothers, Charlie Weaver and wife Betty of Lavaca, Gerald Weaver of Lavaca, Don Weaver and wife Elinor of Lavaca, and Ken Weaver and wife T.J. of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Jessica Reed and husband Nick of Lavaca, Symber Weaver and Rylea Weaver, both of Mansfield, and Brianna Bynum and husband Bud of Heavener, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and B.K. Reed; and a son-in-law, John Buechley of Lavaca.

Honorary pallbearers are Carol Cass, Shercliff Loughridge, JimBill Bias, Johnny Wayne Harris, Red Jones, Ernie Ellison, Tyler Young, and Greg Gibson.
