Obituary

Horald O. Nickell, who resided near Ozark, died Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Ozark. He was born June 10, 1938, in Coalgate, Oklahoma, to the late Homer E. Nickell and Maude (Eubanks) Nickell. He was 81 years old. He was preceded in death also by a brother, Winford Nickell; and one sister, Melvina (Nickell) Sumpter.

Horald graduated from Centrahoma High School and joined the United States Marine Corp where he was stationed at Twentynine Palms, California.  After he completed his military career, Horald worked as a land surveyor for Michael Baker Surveyors where he surveyed pipelines in Saudi, Arabia and Alaska.  He also placed the current markers for the Louisiana Purchase.  He retired from Hoffman, Prieur and Associates in Van Buren in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Stafford) Nickell; a daughter, Betty Goodsell and husband Scott of Springdale; a son, Willis Nickell and wife Venus of Lavaca; his grandchildren, Sarah, Rebekah, and Ryan O'Neal, Ryann Goodsell, Sierra and Phillip Clark, Tory and Evan Jones, and Scott Covert; two great-grandchildren, Kenlynn and Reagan Clark and multiple nieces and nephews.

There is not a service scheduled at this time. Horald's cremains will be buried at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
