Obituary

Hilda Bess Warren,106, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, in her home. She was born December 4, 1905 in Cecil, Arkansas to the late David D. Brown and Martha Jane (O'Bar) Brown and was raised near Charleston.

She graduated from Charleston High School and attended Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway. She taught 3rd grade in Charleston. During the Great Depression, she worked for the Bank of Charleston and married Earl M. Warren of Charleston. Hilda's career of thirty-six years was with the United States Department of Agriculture in Winslow, Van Buren and Little Rock, Arkansas and then in Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas. During World War II, Hilda took a leave of absence from her career with the USDA to serve in the Women's Army Corp, where she attained the rank of First Sergeant. Hilda Bess was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Charleston.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Earl M. Warren; two sisters, Marjorie Eleanor Brown and Dorece Brown; her brother, Carl D. Brown.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15th at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. William A. Cheyne officiating. Burial will be at Nixon Cemetery in Charleston, with "Military Honors", under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.

Hilda is survived by her nephew, Warren Watson of Fort Smith; her niece, Lola Dill of Garland, Texas; her cousin, Charles Brown of Memphis; a close friend, Winetta Gillet, and many loving friends and relatives.

Family will visit with friends 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning prior to the service.
