Grace Raney Pugh, age 97, of Charleston, Arkansas, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 in Booneville, Arkansas. She was born April 11, 1918 in rural Charleston to the late Thomas Henry Dunn and Emma (Cole) Dunn. She grew up in the Potts Community and attended Bollinger School and Charleston High School.
Grace was married to J.D. Raney and together they owned and operated grocery stores in Charleston until 1954. Grace then worked in grocery stores in Fort Smith before becoming an employee and later co-owner of the Coach House Restaurant where she remained until her retirement.
Later in life Grace married Wendell Pugh. Following Wendell's death in 1998, Grace lived in Charleston and later became a resident of Oak Manor Nursing Home in Booneville.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Pugh; two brothers, Matthew Dunn and Carl Dunn; and three sisters, Iva (Edgar) Haney, Ollie (Boyd) Neuhart, and Vivian (Floyd) Harless.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 13th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with the Rev. Bill Van Meter officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip Raney and wife Verna of Ozark and Leon Raney and wife Mary of Brookings, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Steve Raney of Ozark, Joel Raney of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jason Raney of Sacramento, California; and six great-grandchildren.
Family will visit with friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
