Geneva Vermelle Armstrong, 85, of Branch, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in her home. She was born July 12, 1923, in Stratford, OK, to the late Charles John Lee and Maude Wilmer Sykes Lee. She worked at Tinker Field during WWII in Midwest City, OK, and at Montgomery Ward. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the First Christian Church in Edmond, OK, and attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Charleston.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m., at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Charleston.
Officiating the services will be the Rev. Jackie Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Clarance Eldon "Red" Armstrong; one daughter, Melanie Armstrong of Pocola, OK; one sister, Thelma Rollman of Warren, Michigan; one brother, Charles Lee of Edmund, OK; three grandsons, Aaron Maxwell of the home, Ryan Roper of Midwest City, OK, and Heath Roper of Ozone, AR; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry Walthall, Wayne Ayers, James McDaniel, George Ross, Ronnie Roper, and Richard Hannaford.
Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post #8 and the Ladies Auxiliary.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
